Its always important to throughly wash your kit before begining contrustion! Its very simple, just fill your sink with warm soapy water and very lightly scrub your pars like you would your best china. After a nice scrubbing remove the parts and allow them to throughly dry! Your now ready to begin......
Wash your model in soapy water with care
So why is essential to do this to your kit? Well when the parts are produced, heavy metal moulds clamp together and plastic is then injected into the mould (hence the name injection-moulded). To stop the plastic sticking to the mould a grease is applied to both halvess of the mould so the finnished parts are easily removed. Although the factory then cleans the parts, its not possible to remove all the excess grease.
Let your parts dry completely on a towel
Grease is not advisable when modelling, it will make glueing surfaces much harder as the grease will stop the glue from properlly melting each side. The real problems will come when you come to paint the model; the same prinicple applies here, the paint will actually sit on the grease and not the plastic beneath, so will create airpockets, discolour the paint and make it very hard to apply! EG: try writing on a whiteboard with a pencil!
